“I’m
always going to be a sex symbol”
Bridget by Roberta Morgan
The popular media is fond of praising, almost deifying, physically
challenged people who don’t wallow in their handicaps but make
the most of their lives, attempting feats that most folk wouldn’t
even consider. The man with no legs who climbs mountains. The blind
martial artist.
What about a midget with such severe cartilage disease that she needed
13 surgeries since the age of four just to be able to walk? A midget
who not only stars in porn flicks but has scores of fans following
her around?
That is Bridget Powerz, or Bridget the Midget, as she likes to call
herself. Everyone in the business knows her. Bridget is a feisty Goth
bundle of high energy with multiple piercings, too many tattoos to
count, and several outrageous colors dyed into her hair. She struts
in front of her mirror and considers herself the sexiest thing on
two little legs.
She plays on her size and embraces it. She says she has no role model,
but she could be mine, for the same reasons as the legless mountain
climber. In her own curious way, she is an inspiration to every woman
who thinks a pimple on her chin or a slightly crooked nose makes her
unattractive.
Bridget is facially very pretty. Her exotic looks come from her Thai-Irish
and Guatemalan ancestry. But she’s not ignorant of her plight
either. She talks about being bitter, about how frustrating it is
not to reach the cash machine, how she is treated with less respect
than other porn stars because she’s a midget.
The one thing she is not is a victim. Bridget invented herself from
whole cloth, and is damn proud of what she’s accomplished.
“I’m a multi-media entertainer,” she says, smoothing
down her stomach, and enhancing her already thick make-up. “I’m
a radio personality, TV host, singer, wrestler and adult performer.
Sometimes people just refer to me as the sexy pretty midget and that’s
fine, because I get the role, whether it’s Playboy or the Andy
Dick Show.”
Bridget isn’t lying about her talents and ambitions. She is
one of the more mainstreamed porn stars, having made appearances on
Howard Stern and Maury Povich, on the Roseanne Show, Talk Soup, The
Playboy Channel, and VH1 All Access among others, both in the US and
in the United Kingdom. She’s appeared in Esquire. On her well-designed
and up-to-the-minute website, she sells her own line of clothing,
DVDs and videos, the chance to win a date with her, free hard and
soft core photos as well as a sample of her new music CD, Blackout.
All that work is done in addition to appearing in 40 porn films over
the last three years---“the most any dwarf, little person, midget,
whatever you want to call me, ever has”. Starting out as a circus
performer, sword swallower and such, appearing at numerous Renaissance
Fairs, she learned early on how to make her own way in life.
Her rock band, which she loves, is called The Ebola Orchestra. Bridget
is not alone in this connection between music and porn. A CD compilation,
Porn to Rock, was produced by several other adult performers and profiled
on VH1. And today’s porn stars date, appear in videos with,
or grace the covers of albums for such rock stars as Blink 182, Gene
Simmons, Kid Rock Marilyn Manson, Limp Bizkit and Sugar Ray.
Bridget was “discovered” at the age of 19 by a gay porn
make-up man while dancing in a Goth nightclub. Her first porn video
was Goth, and that lifestyle continues to this day. Describing her
wrestling shows, she warns, “See it only if you love hardcore
violence and blood, but if blood makes you sick, this will make you
puke!”
She emphatically states that she will never play anything in porn
that requires her to assume a passive role, despite her dimensions:
3’10” weighing in at 78 lbs. She wears children’s
sizes in clothing and shoes. Her bra size is 28A, which would look
flat on anyone but Bridget.
In one of her more popular titles, 18” versus 18”, she
engages in several forms of sex with male performer Big T, or Tony
Duncan. His formidable equipment spans 18 inches, matching the length
of Bridget’s legs.
Bridget looks far from traumatized in the video. She greedily enjoys
her co-star’s greatest asset (although one squeamish web reviewer
complained that her hands looked like they belonged to a Cabbage Patch
doll). Then the man enters her using various positions, but does not,
remarkably enough, pop out of her throat. If that isn’t enough,
in another film of the same ilk, in which she co-stars with another
True Love girl, Jewel De’Nyle (see page XXX), Bridget is anally
penetrated by another well-endowed male performer.
She giggles about that. “It was great,” she says, flashing
a wicked grin.
“I love being dominant though,” she says. “Once
in a film a guy tried forcing me to spin around on his crotch, the
old fantasy about small women ya know, and it didn’t work, so
I jumped off and slapped him. I wouldn’t work with him anymore.
I quit the film. They got a five minute scene.”
An interview with Bridget is more like attending a verbal and physical
monologue. She fusses over her dolls, her stuffed toys, rainbow colored
leg warmers, pins and hair clips, strange little masks, a story attached
to each. Although she currently lives with a man, she says it’s
for protection. Fans were stalking her. On the whole, men according
to Bridget are “dirty, gross dogs who sleep with fat chicks….”
Even her current dude is “not a dog, but has very selfish tendencies.”
He seems like a nice guy to me. And downright afraid of Bridget.
“For a female midget, being a porn star is really sexy, and
fun. I got tired of being hired to play fairies and elves and leprechauns.
I’m always gonna be a sex symbol which is fine with me. That’s
if my ass doesn’t slip down too far.”
I cannot believe these sexual penetrations aren’t painful, especially
when she fondly describes two gang bang pictures, one with five men
and one with four.
She giggles, then turns serious. “You know what’s painful?
Having all those surgeries when you’re a child, just so you
can walk. Being picked up by strangers in the street and cuddled,
because they think they have the right. Because you’re so cute,
like a doll. I swear, they hoist me up and hand me to their friends.
Amazing! That’s why I appear at conventions and anywhere I’m
performing live with bodyguards.”
Bridget enjoys sex with toys (her personal fave), men and women. She’s
an exhibitionist who loves performing anything, for any audience.
She’s not in denial about her situation; she just makes the
most of it.
“I don’t care what anyone calls me. All I care about is
how I see myself, that’s what matters. Lots of people like me
aren’t taught this and stay at home and won’t do anything
because they’re afraid to go out, terrified of how people will
react to them. That is so sad, and I hope my example can help them
in some way.”
But does she think being a porn star is a good role model? “Mainstream
movies, adult movies, it’s all the same. It’s all behind
a camera doing something. In fact, in mainstream movies you don’t
have any power. Because everyone owns everyone. In porno, when you’re
not under contract, you get lots of freedom and power and choice over
what you will or will not do. It’s much better.”
Well, maybe just a touch of denial. If anyone is entitled, it is Bridget.
